BENGAL GOVERNMENT'S POWERS

' Governor Jackson informed the, liengal Legislative Council that the Criminal Amendment Act, framed in a critical period of 1925 to deal with revolutionary organisations expires next month". Only a certain provision will be renewed. The powers under which the Government is authorised to arrest and Imprison without trial those taking part in a revolutionary movement with aims of violence and assassination are still active, but it has been possible' during the past three years to keep the situation under control. If an emergency arose the Government of India would be prepared to restore full powers to the Bengal Administration.
