LONDON",' 24th March
The Wiltshire vi'lnge of Tisbury was surprised when it learned that Evan Montague Burt, who was announced to marry Sarah Matilda Edwards, was no other than Eva Mary Burt, who has been living in Tisbury for 29 years as a girl and woman. The Wesleyan minister who was to marry the couple said that Mr Burt, as Eva, was a very popular girl-and a. loyal church worker of a type he considered most womanly. Eva met Sarah at an institution where both were employed, the former as a nurse and the latter as assistant. There is widespread general and medical interest in the case of Evan Burt, who was registered and had since lived as a girl. He dressed as a man for the fust time to-day. Tie said: "I have been forced all my life to wear pinafores and play with dolls in the companionship, of girls. Now lam a man 1 can go to publichouses, drink, smoke and wear men's clothes. As a result of protracted negotiations, the registrar-general has agreed to change Burt's birth registration from a girl to a boy. Burt agrees that men s clothes aro uncomfortable and prefers tlie dress and apron which he had worn for 29 years. He is to be married at Easter, and it is. unlikely that he will settle in his native town, which has been staggered by the revelations.
