EMPLOYMENT ON THE WHARF
(To the Editor) tin: —May 1 encroach upon your valuable space* to add a few remarks re "Employment nn tho wharf." 1 am, of com-s'e, a casual and have been going to the wharf regularly for years. As "Pier" stales, no sooner does an overseat vessel arrive than the wharf is crowded with strangers (to the wharf). These' strangers (to the wharf) however, are fairly well known as worthy citizens of Nelson, and landed proprietors of very valuable properties who have other means of keeping the wolf from the door. One of them came dowij to the wharf in a sedan car and was put on, white we who go to the wharf in slack times are left lamenting. 1 have stood by and seen 20' •'strangers to the wharf" put on, while six of us who have been going regularly to the wharf were standing there waiting in vain for a job. I for one should like to know why this is so.—l am. etc., WATERSIDE. Nelson, 25th .March.
