UNEMPLOYMENT
SUGGESTED BELIEF SCHEMES (Uy Telegraph—Proas Association! CHRIST CHURCH, 21st March. Two schemes by which it is hoped (o provide relief for the unemployed of Ihe city were decided upon by the Citizens' Unemployment Committee today, The schemes are as follows: — (1) I'.v placing New Zealand secondary industries on a sound economic basis, Ihc immediate effect would "bo Ihe relief of unemployment. This to bo directed by a Now Zealand campaign for the purchase of New Zealand goods. Such campaign to he subsidised largely by the Government and the cooperation of public bodies, institutions, and business interests.
(2) That the Government be urged to raise a loan immediately upon the revenue of the annual income now being derived under the motor and highways legislation and petrol taxation for the purpose; of expediting the construction of our main arterial highways, which work if put in hand and pushed on vigorously would provide a. solution of the unemployment problem for the next lour 10 five years.
