PUNISHMENT IN AUSTRALIA MISPLACED LENIENCY CHUCK JUSTiCK'S WARNING (United Pros* Association—By Electrio Telograph—Copyright) SYDNEY, 7th March. Chief Justice Sir Philip Street, dismissing the appeals of two hank robbers, commented on the increase of serious crime. He said this was a disquieting circumstance, but while nobody wishes to see excessive severity reintroduced which at one time was a reproach to this country, punishment in future would have to "fit the crime as leniency might sometimes he misplaced and might do more harm than good.
