whereas Pout was erratic at times, but had patches of good play, making at. times brilliant recoveries. Huggins outdrove his opponent, and got particularly long balls; at the second in the afternoon round, with the aid of a northerly breeze, he got well over the hill—u distance of over 300 yards. .'l7 against 411 and was 4 up, the other holes being halved. Huggins won the Kith, Rout took the 11th, and the next iwo were "halved. Rout then won the i.'ith and 14th, and Huggins the lt.tli and 18th, the 17th being halved. Huggins was 4 up nt, the 18th, going round in 7!» (bogey 7">) against Rout's SI.

In the afternoon round Rout took the first in :i four against a 5; lint Huggins regained his lead at the next. The next three holes were halved in lw.i;ey; and at (lie 01 h Hllffgins sent down a nine-foot putt for a win. At (lie short 7th Rout obtained a half with a long putt; while at the Bth fioni his second on the edge of the green he obtained a brilliant three against a five. At the 9th Rout failed lo sink a two-foot, putt for a win the hole being halved. The ,10th hole was badly played by both contestants. Huggins' tee shot found the bunker to the left of the green: and Rout dulled his second. Fives halved the hole. Rout had chances at both tin- ilth and 10th for wins. The 11th and 12th were halved in bogey: but, Huggins took the 13th, milking him doriny live. He won the next in .'I against four and took the match and the championship tor the third time in succession.

COCK CUP In the Cock Cup between R. Methven and ('. Milner the. game was even in. the first, round up to the 11th hole, where Methven was 1 up. He then won •six holes out of the seven and finished the round 7 up. In tliu afternoon Milner won four out of the first six holes, the. other two being halved, and reduced his opponent's lead to .'i up. Methven, however, then struck a good patch and won 8 up and 7 to play.
