MORE PAY FOR TEACHERS
NEW SOUTH WALES RISE ALL-ROUND INCREASES Increases estimated approximately at between £60.000 and £70,000 have 'been conceded lo tho male school teachers in New South Wales. The claims were filed two years ago and if they bad been granted would have meant £2,000.000 increase to the State's expenditure. All grades of teachers will benefit, hut the largest, increases will go to the headmasters of first-class schools. The claims for the women teachers have also been referred to the Industrial Commission. At present their salary for all grades is four-fifths of that of the males. The department, it is understood, is prepared to grant the existing salaries, hut tlie Teachers' Federation is asking for the same ratio of increases as the men. Such increases would mean added expenditure of £40.000 bv the State.
