A CAPITAL FOR WALES
The question of a national capital for Wales lias been raised—with agreement upon the choice it could be constituted by an Order-in-Council. ''Would a recognised capital be a national asset?" asks the '"Welsh Outlook." "No country in the world is richer in national institutions than Wales; a very large portion of our social life is organised on a national basis. Ought we to have a national capital as well? In favour of having one it is argued that all these various institutions would benefit from the existence of a common centre, a G.11.Q. of national effort; that Welsh nationality is definitely handicapped by the lack of a capital; that a focus for national life is essential to progress; that we require an official centre from which to press our national claims, "the mark of nationality from which national life would radiate.' And yet. on the other hand, we have never had a national capital in the whole of our history. As our institutions show, our national feeling is very much alive to-day. We have got on pretty well without a capital. Would wc have done better with it? Does Wales really want a capital and need it ?
