It appears that ,Mr Parker, a carrier, coming from Inangahua Junction to Tiroroa in a motor lorry, with his wife, two children, and Mrs Southcn, to allow a service car from Nelson to pass through, pulled to the side of the roar), just as a big slip came away, carry- " ing a tree with it. The tree struck the lorry, "Rilling the two women and . the infant. Parker got clear with seme injuries. Assistance was sought from railway construction camps, and the other child was rescued in a battered state and the bodies of the victims recovered.. Apparently the tree fell on the side of the cab and half tipped the lorry, which then righted itself. / » When rescuers arrived on the scene of the accident, Mrs Parker and the infant were ah'eady dead.
