RAILWAY DEVIATION AT PALMERSTON NORTH CABINET’S DECISION (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. When the Palmerston North railway deviation was proposed in 1924, the expenditure was suggested because traffic developments at that point indicated that it would double in twelve and a half years. Subsequent experience has shown that this expectation has not been fulfilled ' and that crucial fact, coupled with financial considerations, has determined the Government in de- , riding to suspend the work. The above statement was made by Sir Joseph Ward to-day.
