CONSTABLE RESISTED
MAN SENTENCED TO IMPRISON* MENT AT MAGISTRATE'S COURT TO-DAY Two men both described as undesirable characters were before Messrs G. A. Edmonds and I. Tunnicliff, Justices of the Peace, at the Magistrate’s Court 10-dav. Senior-Sergeant Quinn represented the police. Otto Robert Rahman, was charged with being found drunk in a public place. He was convicted and discharged arid ordered to leave Nelson immediately. The second offender, William Archibald Clelaml, aged 41. w r as charged with (1) being found drunk in Gloucesterstreet,. (»2) using obscene language, and (3) resisting a constable in the execution of his duty. The accused pleaded guilty to all three charges. Evidence was given by Constable Smith that he found the accused drunk in Oloucoster-streefc and that the accused used the language complained of and attacked witness twice while witness was arresting him. Witness finally had to handcuff the accused. Several previous convictions for using obscene language theft etc., were admitted by the accused. He was convicted and discharged on the first charge and sentenced to rlimmonths imorisomnent with hard labour on each of the other two charges, the terms to he cumulative.
