The New Zealander was faster and cleverer, and his hurricane like blows reached Grime from all directions whenever the latter came up from his old time crouch. The big crowd sensed the passing of the champion, as apart from the fifth and seventh rounds, in-which the Australian had rath si' the better of points, the New Zealander piled up his tally steadily. Grime was cautioi ed in the eleventh, and later accidentally landed an illegal tap, but Leckie, after a moment's pause, offered the gloves and the bout proceeded. Thai last three rounds saw Leckie fighting like a demon, but vhe Australian was tough and lasted till the 14th when the New Zealander's punches told a tale. A right to the jaw sent Grime down for nine. He got up but was immediately floored. He got to his feet again at the eouiit of six, only to- be dropped once more. The police then interfered. The exchampion was badly battered.
