LEAVING FOR THE BASE

DUNEDIN, This Day. As favourable reports have been received of the breaking up of the ice pack in the Ross Sea ; an earlier der Lire than anticipated will be made the steamer Eleanor Bolling for Byrd’s base in Bay of Whales. She will leave Dunedin immediately on the completion of loading, either to-night or to-morrow morning. She should reach the base on 22nd January, and will then turn back to Dunedin. Should the season not be too far advanced, another trip to the Antarctic with supplies will be made this summer.
