EMPIRE THEATRE—“IRISH
HEARTS”
Here at last is a comedy which does not caricature, hut characterises. Here are the Irish as they. are. May McAvoy has never appeared so altogether adorable, and that is saying a great deal. She is remembered in “Sentimental Tommy” and “The Enchanted Cottage” and “Lady Windermere’s Fan,” and many others. Her portrayals are always like cameos. But as Patsy Shannon—the colleen who leaves Ireland to find her lover Emmett, in America, and instead find hard work, sorrow, struggle, and to counteract all the had luck (which came about hv the loss of a shamrock brooch—Timmie O’Shay—she is irresistible. Jason Ro,bards plays the role of Tim, and Warner Richmond the unfaithful Emmett. A big selection of supporting features will also he screened. Prices as usual. Plans at' Cull’s and the Theatre. To-morrow and Saturday’s double programme will be headed by “Man Crazy” a comedy starring Dorothy MacKaill and Jack Mulliall. “The Pioneer Scout” with Fred Thompson will be the second feature. Plans now open.
THE REGENT—PICTURES AND
VAUDEVILLE
’ Another excellent exhibition of terpsichorcan art was given by Rex and Zeiula last night, and if one can judge by tho applause accorded their efforts by the large audience present, it was certainly approved of. A graceful tango was their opening number, arid' the act finished with a weird adaptation of Sibelius’ “Valse Triste.” In tho latter number Zenda is thrown about tho stage in a manner that often makes one wonder if she really is hurt for she takes some hard falls, but comes out smiling for tho curtain. Rex sang several numbers accompanying himself on the guitar and ukolele. Zenda performed an acrobatic dance with grace and skill. The picture is “Beyond the Sierras” which gives Tim McCoy good opportunities to display his athletic, capabilities. A “Buster Brown” comedy and the latest gazette completes an enjoyable evening's entertainment.
