REPORTS

The Resident Surgeon (Dr. D. C. Low) reported (hat 87 patients wore admitted to and 75 discharged from the institution during December and that 71 remained.

The Matron of the Molueka Hospital reported that 6 maternity cases were admitted during December and 3 discharged. Three remained in tho institution.

Lt was resolved that certain paths at the Molueka Hospital be surfaced with "Laykold.” The Relieving Officer (Mr IT. Kidson) reported that during tho month cloven families received assistance and £25 16s was paid out in rations and food. The Master of the Alexandra Home (Mr A. Hunter) reported that all the inmates were in good health and that they spent a happy Christmas. GENERAL Tho subsidy paid to the Nursing Home at Takaka was discussed and it was eventually resolved that the matter be deferred until next, meeting. Tho chairman and tho secretary are meanwhile to visit Takaka and report to the. board. The chairman and the secretary were appointed the board's delegates to the annual conference of hospital boards at Palmerston North in March. On the motion of Mr Hewetson, seconded by Mr Spiers, it was decided to forward a remit suggesting that hospital levies be on a population basis in lieu of on capi-* tal. it was pointed out that in some country districts the levy was twice and fcliico times greater per capita than in the towns where the value of tho hospital was much higher because of ils proximity. .' " ; lt was resolved that a special meeting of the board be lield at 10.30 a.m. on the day of tho next ordinary meeting (6th February) to consider applications for the position of resident surgeon.
