United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright
BRISBANE, Bth January. The weather in the north is clearing. Cairns and other centres report a cessation of rain.
It is expected that the rivers will fall as quickly as they rose. The water in the Tully river yesterday was 25 feet above the railway bridge. The week’s rainfall in this locality was 26 inches. A ten mile sheet of water stretches between Tully and Bellenden. STOCK ROUTES OPENED (Received 9th January, 10.10 a.m.) BRISBANE, This Day. As the result of recent rains all stock routes in the Winton area are now open. Most graziers have arranged to bring their sheep back as sufficient grass is now available to sustain the remnants of their flocks for several months. Watercourses are still swollen and all the western mails are disorganised. The line to Lc/tigreach will not be available for traffic for a week.
