At the end of the first day's tennis between Britain and New South Wales, the home team was leading by two rubbers, seven sets, 56 games, to 2 rubbers, 5 sets, 48 games. lliggs heat Kalms 2-G ; 6-4, 6-2; Austin beat Hopinan 6-3, 6-2; Crawford and Hopman beat Higgs and Collins 6-3, 6-2, 6-2; Kalms and Willard beat Gregory and Austin 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.

Crawford played a fine game, while for England Gregory was outstanding.
