MISSING YOUTH AND GIRL
BODIES FOUND L\ ATTIC

Sordid details are associated with the discovery of the bodies of William Hiddle (18) and Harriet Virtue (4). The little girl's mother was in hospital at the time of the child's disappearance on 18th July, ami (he hither purposely kept the disappearance from the mother ami police .for lour days. The bodies were discovered in an attic between the ceiling and chimney in Riddle's own home, in IVel street, Ballarat. An unusual smell caused -m investigation to be made, and the bodies were found fifteen feci apart between the rafter'-. Loth weie dressed with the exception of shoes. There was a supply of blankets, two candles, a largo butcher's knife, a bottle bearing the label puison, and also a condensed milk tin beside the little girl. 'I he bodies were much decomposed but were identified as those of Hiddle and Virtue.
