The Mayor of Motueka (Mr J. A. Wallace) in a brief speech, accorded a civic welcome lu the delegates. Mr Clover, on helialf of the other churches of the town, spoke a few words of welcome

The Rev. L. A. C. Brooks, the resident minister of the Methodist Church, also wished the visitors u happy and profitable stav in llio town during Synod. The I lev. (!. l!\ Slockwoli, of Blenheim, replied on behalf of the ministerial portion of the. delegates; and the l!ev. C. K. Smith, of Hokilika, thanked the Motueka folk for their welcome on behalf of tho lay representatives. All the speeches were of a happy, Vet instructive and helpful nature. A programme of vocal and elocutionary items was rendered during the evening. This included anthems by the choir, quartettes by Mesdames lioyce and Canavan, and Messrs Mather and Bowdcn; solus bv Mrs Bovco and Mr J. A. Daglisli, and Mr \\"'. Mather. A duet was rendered by Mesdames Boyee and Canaviin; and the Rev. 11. L. Richards recited a piece selected from Shakespeare. Miss llulbert, A.T.C.L., was the accompanist, and well deserved the word of praise which the chairman accorded her at the close when lie moved a hearty vote of thanks to the performers. 1 The ladies of the church then handed round a bounteous supper, bringing to a close what was felt to be one of the best I social gatherings held in the district.
