DEEDS, NOT WORDS
WHAT GERMANY WANTS
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright Australian Press Association LONDON, 11th November. The "Morning Post's" Berlin correspondent states that Mr Baldwin's Guildhall speech has not thawed German suspicion. All circles, both Right and Left, are demanding deeds not words. Headlines such as "Siren Strains from England," "Tho Complacent Baldwin," are typical. The "Boersen Zeitung" concludes: — "The old entente spirit persists in Mr Baldwin's head. The reparations negotiations will be the. test of his declaration that henceforth there are neither victors nor vanquished. We fear, nevertheless that there will be a deep cleft between theory and practice." The "Allegemeine Zeitung," always in close touch with Hie Foreign Office, says that the general impression of Mr Churchill's and Mr Baldwin's speeches is that England is still very closely tethered to French policy, which is in no way friendly to Germany."
