DAMAGE BY FIRE
A WORKSHOP GUTTED (By Telegraph—Press Association) DUNEDIN, This Day. The upper storey of the pram "department in the workshops of J. and W. Faulkner's premises, in Castle street; was gutted by fire about 5 o'clock yesterday morning.
The fire brigade was summoned at 5.15 o'clock but before the outbreak was extinguished, considerable damage was done.
A huge quantity of metal was completely ruined by the fire and valuable coppered steel wire, that cannot he replaced, and a large stock of brassware, were ! rendered useless. The whole of the upper floor was reduced to a tangled mass of wreckage, and practically nothing was saved. Stock on the ground floor was considerably damaged by water. In one place 25 tons of bright steel bars were covered with water, and these will all have to he cleaned and dried immediately. The origin of the fire is a mystery. The building was insured for £ISOO, the stock for £2500, and the machinery for £2OO, all in the Royal Exchange Association Company's Office.
