Lore) Birkenhead's now book "More Famous Trials,"- issued to-day contains .the. surprise admission that there is a lingering doubt about the guilt of Mrs Thompson, in the famous Bywaters case. "Admitted she planned and plotted the murder, recognising that if ho had presided at the trial he would have directed as had Mr Justice Shearman, and realising that as a member of the Court of Criminal Appeal he should likewise have found no reason lor quashing the verdict, nevertheless, he still had a small lingering doubt whether Mrs Thompson were, present, at the crime she arranged, or indeed whether she had any idea that such a crime would be attempted."
