CROWDED .MEETING AT WELLINGTON
WELLINGTON, This Day. Mr Holland addressed a crowded meeting in the Town Hall. He said he was not going to reply'to the questions Mr Coates had put at Dargaville (as to his personal connection with the Communist leaders in Australia). Of Sir Joseph Ward he said his views now were in conflict with those he expressed in 1919. Now he appeared to be leading a campaign in the opposite direction. Mr Holland received a vote of thanks and confidence, with cheers. No questions were asked. '
"GAZETTE" NOTIFICATIONS
WELLINGTON, 25th October.
A special "Gazette" to-night contains the writs for the election to Parliament of both European and native members, lists of returning officers, and registrars for each electorate, and the polling places. A change is made in the arrangement of the latter. Formerly they were given in geographical order, but now they are published alphabetically. NAPIER SEAT NAPIER, this Day. Mr J. Vigor Brown declined nomination as the United Party candidate for the Napier seat, asserting that his mayoral duties occupied all his time. EGMONT CONTEST ELTHAM, This Day. Mr C. A. Wilkinson, Independent candidate for Egmont, addressed a big meeting in the Town Hall at Eltham, nearly 800 people being present. He severely criticised many planks of the Government's policy. He had a most attentive hearing and was loudly cheered at the conclusion. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried unanimously.
