ANNUAL CONFERENCE

CHRISTCHURCH; 10th October. At the annual conference of the Baptist union of New Zealand which was opened to-day, 160 delegates were present. Mr .Samuel Barry (Auqkland) vice-president of the Union, presided. New churches at New Lynn and Pukekohe were received into the Union. Reference was made to the visit of a distinguished visitor, the Rev. Wi J. Whitley, a noted Baptist scholar, author, and leader. SATISFACTORY REPORTS CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. At the annual conference of the Baptist Union, reports stated that thS membership had risen to 7385, two new churches were formed during the year, and extensive building operations undertaken. In addition, the remarkable feature of the reports of the various departments of the work, Home and Foreign, was that in spite of the depression every account was in good credit.. Some £17,500 was subscribed.for various activities, exclusive of the gift of a college building./ *
