SOUTH ISLAND MOTORISTS STRONG FEELING IN CANTERBURY (By Telegraph—Special to "The Mail") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The Canterbury motorists are determined to champion their cause to the uttermost, even to the extent of modifying their political preferences. One thing they are particularly sore about is that constant direct and indirect representations to the Government for another representative of South Island motorists on the Main Highwayß Board lhaye gone unheeded. They are now resolved to support no for the forthcoming elections who does not favour, the inclusion of another South Island representative on the board.
This was done at last night's meeting of the Canterbury Automobile Associar tion, when members stood by the resolution recently passed by the S.I.M.U. Mr F. W. Johnston, who solicited support for the motion, asserted that Civil Servants were getting a little too strong. He wanted to know if members were prepared to back up the S.I.M.U. in the attitude it had adopted. It was intended to circularise candidates for Parliament asking them if they were (1) In favour of two Highways Boards, one for the South Island and the other for the North Island; (2) in favour of ah extra South Island representative on the Board. He moved that the association support the S.I.M.U. Mr Freeman, in seconding the proposal, said that even North Island motorists realised that southerners were not getting a fair deal. - 1 , •"■
