NELSON CLUB OPENING OF THE SEASON The Nelson Croquet Club opened the season yesterday afternoon on the lawns in Manuka street. In spile of the un settled weather, there was a large attendance of members and their friends, as well as repressntatives of other clubs. The vice-president (Mrs Acheson) in declaring the lawn opened, welcomed the visitors, and expressed the hope that the season would be an enjoyable one. Mrs Renwick, patroness of the club, played the first ball, after which several competitions were, engaged in. The heavy state of the ground prevented matches being played. On behalf of the club, Miss N. Gilkison, the secretary, presented the patroness with a beautiful wreath of flowers (made by Mrs Briee) representing the club's colours.
