AMATEUR STATUS
STATEMENT BY OLYMPIC
COMMITTEE
United Press Association—By ElectriO Service.
AMSTERDAM,. 3rd August. Apropos of the broken time.-football controversy, which at one time threatened to cause Britain’s withdrawal from the Olympiad, the International Olympic Committee issues a statement criticising the Federation of Inter* national Football ■ Associations, to v which Britain does not belong. Iho statement regrets that this federation lias so modified its views on the amateur status that they are no. longer in accord with Olympic rules. The committee has issued -a second statement apropos of the. International Lawn Tennis Federation s refusal to allow members to compete at Amsterdam, pointing oiit that the. c.opt* mittee desires to maintain the Olympic conception of amateurism as well as attracting the widest number of eligibles. Nevertheless, only those are eligible whose amateur status, accords y'ljli Olympic rules. It hopes, therefore, that the Lawn Tennis Federation; as well as the International Federation of Football Associations, will make rules to conform to the accepted rules,, otherwise they cannot be allowed to compete.
