WHEAT, APPLES, AND BANK AMALGAMATION
OTTAWA, 14th July. A Montreal message states that the estimated wheat acreage for 1928 in the prairie province is over 23£ millions against 214 millions in 1927. This breaks all previous records. The crop prospects have never been more favourable. ;
. The apple crop is up 12 per cent. At Toronto an announcement was made by Mr Robb, Minister of Finance, that he had consented to an agreement whereby the Canadian Bank of. Commerce will purchase the' assets of the Standard Bank of Canada. The amalgamation is on a share for share basis and brings the assets of the Bank of Commerce to approximately- seven hundred millions. The market value of Rank of Commerce shares is 298 dollnrs, and of Standard Bank shares 277. The par value is 100 dollars.
