FIRE AT BLACKBALL

A DESTRUCTIVE OUTBREAK

GREYMOUTH, 14th July

Blackman's Hotel, the Gymnasium Ball and the co-operative store at Blackball were totally destroyed by fire this morning. The outbreak was _ discovered about 12.30 o'clock, but it is not known how the fire originated. It started in the hotel and quickly ignited tho adjoining uvmnasium. Every effort was made by the fire-fighters to subdue tho outbreak, but the wind fanned the flames and tlie fire spread to the cooperative store, which was soon envelopStenhouse's store, and also the Oddfellows' Hall caught alight, but by desperate efforts on the part of the bucket brigade they were saved. The furniture and other goods hi the hotel were saved, but (be proprietor and others who resided there lost personal elfeels.
