MR ATMORE’S ATTITUDE
PASSAGES IN TIIE HOUSE (By Telegraph* (From “The Mail’s” Parliamentary Reporter). WELLINGTON, 13th July. The suggestion that the Labour Party had an “understanding” with Mr Atmore was made by the Minister Education (the Hon. R. A. Wright) in the House of Representatives tonight. “It looks as if there is nil niulersiamling between the Labour Party and the member for Nelson.” said the Minister, “and as if they are not going 1n rim a enndidnle in bis district, ft certainly looks that way. At one time 1 lie member for Nelson would not say a good word for the Opposition. There was no one in the House who denounced them so strongly.” Mr Armstrong (Christchurch East): “He improves with age.” The Minister: “Oh. I'm afraid there's more than age in it."
Mr P. Fraser (Wellington Central):’ “Yes. there's intelligence in it." The Minister: “T 1 certainly looks as if the member for Nelson is gradually ••oiiur over bit by bit to the Labour Oopositinn. Perhaps when the Labour Party heroines finite white instead of pink or red lie will go right over.” Tl>o Postmaster-General (the Hon. W. Nos worthy): “He’s gone pale rank.”
