KNOTTY PROBLEM

FOR HARBOUR BOARD MEMBERS

lIAIR-WAVING MACHINES ON

WATERFRONT

(By Telegraph—Special to "The Mail")

AUCKLAND. This Day. At yesterday's meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board an application was received for permission to instal hairwaving machines in one of the ladies waiting rooms on the waterfront, the applicant, suggesting that tho Harbour Board supply the electrical current and tako a percentage of tho proceeds. It was urged that the waterfront was an appropriate*place for hair-waving machines; that they would be just as useful as weighing machines; that trans-har-lionr passengers would appreciate them (now that the close shingle was fading out). The possibility of a water wave of a popular Cheltenham beach variety being arranged while awaiting the ferry was stressed. As none of the board members could speak with authority on either the "longer cuts" or "curly helmets" problem, the matter was referred to the Finance Committee for a report, members being given liberty to consult their wives r.'ii the perplexing subject.
