ANOTHER COMPLAINT
THE BROWNE CASE
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright Australian Press Association. —United Service.
LONDON, 20th May. Mrs Browne, in a startling letter to Reynold's "Sunday News" in reference to the Savage case, states that the day following Browne's arrest Scotland Yard officers took her to the station at 10.30 in the morning. and she remained till 7 at night. She was questioned hour after hour with nothing tn eat or drink. Her child, who accompanied her, cried bitterly : "Mummy, can't I have something to eat?" and the police then pro vided tea and rough sandwiches. Mrs Browne alleges that the questioning did not cease, the police saying that she must be aware of her husband's movements and what he was doing. She was tired and worn out when allowed to go. and might have said anything when so fatigued.
LIMITING THE INQUIRY
A LIBERAL AMENDSIENT
LONDON, 21st May. ' Sir Hopkin .Morris (Lib.) tabled an amendment to the motion moved by Sir William Joynson-Hicks deleting the words referring to the conduct of the prosecution and evidence in the Hyde Park case, thus limiting the inquiry strictly to the police action in taking Sliss Savage to Scotland Yard. A number of the Opposition fear the matter of interrogation of Scotland Yard will otherwise be obscured by a mass of details regarding the Hyde Park case. Moreover, a public inquiry might, prejudice criminal proceedings for perjury.
