Unconfirmed reports state that the Nationalist, forces are falling" back on Nanking before the Northern onslaught. Following anti-Nationalist' successes in Northern Kiangsu Province, the Nanking Government's troops are re-crossing the Yaiigtsc. southward, seeking shelter in thi' walled city of Nanking. Sounds of gunfire are reported to be audible from Pukow. the Yangtse terminus on the Pukow-Tientsiu railway.
Repjorls of heavy lighting between Chang Tso-liu's and Chiang Ivai Slick's
armies in the vicinity of Usuchowfu following the launching of an offensive by the Northerners are apparently confirmed, though the permanency of the Northern victory is questionable..
