Explaining the liquor tax the. Treasurer said liquor license fees would be increased from 2 per cent, to 5 per cent, on liquor sales, thus restoring the tax removed bv the Lang Administration. Prior to Sir Lang's amendment 2 per CMlt. of ihe tax on liquor sa'ies went to the Treasury and the other 3 per cent. was paid into the Compensation Fund in order to meet any claims made, as a result of the operation of the License Reduction Board. The Govvsrnniont was now of opinion that the -additional 3 per cent, on sales could lie reimposed without victimising liquor consumers.
