CO-OPERATION THE AIM
PRACTICAL SCHEMES NEEDED LONDON, 20th Jan. In an article in the "Weekly Dispatch" Sir A. Mond says, in reference to the conference between representatives of capital and labour : "The watchword should be negotiation by conciliation toward co-operation. "A true and lasting approach to cooperation is the working out of practical schemes benefiting employers, employees, industry, and the whole community.
"Everyone agrees that the community must reach a high standard of life. Low wages and long hours will not cure depression, for which the remedy is high production at cheap cost and high wages. If Britain achieves these it will reach a standard of prosperity and high consumption similar to that of America.
''l do not believe . that* the British workman is exacting. On the contrary, he will trust you if he realises that he is getting a fair deal. "I hope the establishment of works councils, ensuring direct relations between workers a,nd employers, will result from the conference."
