NELSON JOCKEY CLUB
THE ANNUAL RACE MEETING NEW DATES APPLIED FOR The Nelson . Jockey Club committee has been greatly concerned recently as to whether the weather conditions prevailing and the probability of the track at Richmond being in such a state as to render going on with their February meeting inadvisable. The course is always one and as there is no apparent prospect of rain falling before the meeting the committee met twice yesterday and gave the matter very earnest consideration. Officials in Wellington, the district committee in Greymouth, and the Racing Conference in Christchurch, were also communicated with several times yesterday by telephone, and last evening the, committee decided to abandon the February meeting as advertised and apply for fresh dates later in the. season. The dates applied for are 3rd and sth May,. provided these, days are not required by the Marlborough Club whose arrangements are also likely to be altered. Coupled with the weather conditions the committee gave full consideration to the fact that the greater number of the horses nominated were from _ the North Island and as several meetings are being held there about the same time as the Nelson meeting would have been, owners \y_yild have" preferred under the circumstances to have raced nearer .home and consequently the acceptances would probably have been very unfavourable for an attractive and' satisfactory meeting.
