THE BATHS
(To the Editor) SiL',«r-Tho new baths are now going on so well that I am reluctant to say anything that might be construed into a note of disparagement. But there is one little matter that should be remedied, with a view to their still wider usefulness. Two nights a week are now taken up cleaning and freshly filling of the baths (Monday and Friday). Now to close the baths at this particular hour (6 p.m.) is very inconvenient for many, as I found out to-night. It means the turning away of many good customers—mostly adults who pay 3d entry and not a few of-them hire costumes and toweh as well, and want private boxes.for wliich an additional fee is quite rightly charged. This all means good money for the municipal exchequer. To turn down trade is not good business. You've got to study the convenience of your customer, and the summer months will not last very long. We must "make hay while the sun shines." Now, why not clean and fill the baths in the morning, say, from 8 till 12. ' To close up for these four hours would, I thipir.inconveniencevery few, especially now that the colleges' and schools holidays have finished for the season. To-night the pools in the Maitai were full 'of swimmers. Many of these would havo been patrons of the baths had thev been open.—l am, etc., SWIMMER. Nelson, 6th February.
