ARBITRATION
FRANCE AND AMERICA NEW TREATY TO BE SIGNED (By Elaotrio Tsleirraph-€onyriirht) (Auatrdlian & N.Z. Cable Aaaociatiani WASHINGTON, sth Feb. To-morrow the French Ambassador and tlie Under-Secretary of State, Mr Olds, will sign a new Franco-American Arbitration Treaty, marking the 150th anniversary of the original treaty of amity and commerce between the two countries, in 1778.
A preamble of the Treaty states that it is desired of the two countries always to settle a difference by peaceful mean?. Questions involving France's obligation under the League of Nations, those affecting the Monroe Doctrine, and those of a purely domestic character are exempted from arbitration.
TREATY SIGNED
(Received 7th February, 10.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, 6th February. The Arbitration Treaty with France was signed to-day. The two Governments pledge themselves to arbitrate in any dispute not arising from purely domestic questions, and not affecting the interests of a third nation, and not involving the Monroe Doctrine.
