ALPINE AND ROCK GARDEN SOCIETY

It is safe to say that after the visit of some 300 teachers to Nelson, many schools will be taking up rock gardening. No form of education in horticulture could give bet for results to children than the collection of plants obtainable in New Zealand and other alpine districts of the world. A school rockery 36 feet long, would accommodate 250 different plants, and the time may come when the Education Department will assist in helping in this direction. The society is most anxious to encourage any attempts made, and will be willing to consider a special fee to schools, if possible, and it is intended to move in this direction at next meeting. The lion, secretary (Mr A. Wilkinson.' is willing to meet any interested visitors at the rock garden any evening at 5 o’clock, except Tuesday, 17 th. \ ' New members during the fortnight arc: Captain Keatley Auckland;’.Mr S. A. R. Mair, Ilunterville; Airs G. H. Watkins, Wadestown; Mr D. L. Harrower, Wellington; Miss Hudson, Tapawera; Mr B. Chambers, Havelock North; Mrs J. M. Emery, Karori.
