Thirteen days before the opening of the war in 1812, the United States seized the schooner Lord Nelson in Lake Ontario. She was auctioned for 3000 dollars, and after the close, of the war, the former Canadian owners sued the American Government. During 115 years the litigation has leisurely proceeded, and to-day the Washington Government sent a cheque for 23,640 dollars, mostly interest, to the Canadian Government, which has now the problem to divide this amount among the 125 descendants of the former owners.
