(By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) ' l“Sun” Cable.)
LONDON, 7th Nov
The Yorkshire cricket secretary, Mr Toone, explains that on the first count on the Sutcliffe captaincy, the voting was 11-11. Lord Hawke, the chairman, did not exercise a casting vote, but simply; asked for a recount, which resulted 13 to 11 in favour of the professional captain. "The first I saw of Sutcliffe's appointment was in the newspapers," says Rhodes. "The honour apparently passed over my head. It was never offered to me." RHODES DISAPPOINTED (Received 9th November, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, Bth.November. ' "I cannot help thinking, after playing for so long, that I should have had first refusal of the captaincy," said Rhodes, feelingly. "I admire Sutcliffe, who is a splendid cricketer and a good fellow, but it looks as if my services are not appreciated."
