LOWER MOUTERE
CRICKET CLUB CONCERT A successful concert., organised by the Lower Moutere Cricket, Club ,was held in the Jubilee Hall on Saturday evening. Mv E. J. Wills (president) occupied the chair. The large audience present thoroughly enjoyed the vocal and instrumental items contributed hv local artists, and showed its appreciation by repeated calls for encores.
During an interval, Mr E. I’. Trevena, president of the Motueka Cricket Association, handed over to Mr A. Starnes (captain) the De Lacy Shield, junior trophy, won by Lower Moutere last season. In making the presentation, Mr Trevena congratulated the club on its success and "expressed the hope that Lower Moutere would be able to retain the trophy. Mr Staines, replying, said that several years had elapsed since his club had last' held the Shield. They would now do their best to keep it. ‘ He thought i.lio Shield should be placed in a conspicuous place to be an incentive to the younger generation to play cricket. An offer by Mr Wills to hang the Shield in the school was accepted. Mr Cuthbertson (secretary) explained that, the object of the concert mis to raise funds In provide the club with new matting. Some of the members had remarked that they could play cricket if only good matting was provided. When" the matting was to hand, he would expect the members of tho dub to show their worth. He hoped they would all he present at the annual meeting, which would be held on Saturday. The programme was as follows: — Songs: Mr J. Heath (“Thanks bo to Cod’’ and “In tho Garden of my Heart”); Miss M. Crichton (“Somewhere a Voice is Calling,” “A Big Lot of Sunshine,” “Should He Upbraid”); Mesdamos Canavan and Boyce (“0 come again. Sweet Love” and “Down the Vale”); Mr E. Trevena (“Tliora” and “The Lilac Tree”); Mrs J. Boyce (“Fairings” and “To a, Miniature”); Miss M. Brown, monologues (“Gee, I’m Scared.” “Regrets.” “Just Plain Dog”
and “Me Too”): pianoforte. Miss M. Brown ("American .Airs” and “Shadow Dance”); Mr J. Brash, steel guitar, MissO. Delaiiy: Moutere Children’s Glee Clnli, “Tui Bird,” “Glidings through the Meadow.” Mrs T. Ovens and Miss Crichton played the accompaniments. Mr Cuthbertson, on behalf of the club, heartily thanked the artists for the. excellent evening’s entertainment, the proceeds of which, approximately .€5 10s. would go towards purchasing the matting.
