TASMAN LODGE
An event of considerable importance to the members of the 1.0.0.F.N.Z. Order in Nelson took place at a. special meeting of Tasman Lodge held in the Orange" Hall, Collingwood Street, recently, the Occasion being'the installation of the first D.D.G.M. for the newlyformed Nelson District. Although the Order has been in existence in Nelson and Marlborough for only two years its growth has been so rapid that it has been found necessary to form two new districts, one taking in Picton and Blenheim and the other Nelson and Moiueka.
A large number of members were, in attendance, large paities coming from Picton, Blenheim and Motueka., among whom were Bros. Rabone, D.D.G.M., Blenheim; Bros. Temmell. P.G. and Bro. Bush, F.S., Picton: Bros. McKillop, P.G., and Andrews, N.G., Motueka. Bro. O'Donnell, N.G. Tasman Lodge, occupied the chair, and in a brief speech welcomed the visitors on behalf of the Nelson brethren. Bro. D. McKillop, P.G., Mt. Arthur Lodge, was then dnlv installed D.D.G.M. for the Nelson District for the ensuing two years, the ceremony being carried out by a team of Tasman Lodge officers, Bro." J. O'Donnell, K.G., acting as installing officer, being ably assisted by Bro. G. Bradbury as Marshal and Bro. J. Gardiner as Chaplain. After handing Bro. McKillop liir, commission the installing officer asked him to take the chair for the remainder of the session. s
On rising to speak Bro. McKillop was received with loud applause. Tie thanked the Lodges concerned for placing him in the highest position in the District, and said he would do his best to justify the trust placed in him. Although lie had been in the Order for a great many years he Avas not yet content to take a back seat where the progress of the Order was concerned. He also thanked the. brethren for coming from so far afield in such numbers, and concluded by urging his hearers to push forward the work of the. Order to the. best of their ability. Bros. O'Donnell, Andrews. Gemmell and Rabone congratulated Bro. McKillop on his elevation to such high office, all the speakers stressing the. fact that in Bro. McKillop they'had the. right man in the right place. Bro. Anderson, P.G., mentioned the fact that the day was Bro. McKillop's birthday, and on'behalf of (lie assembled brethren, wished him many happy returns of the day.
Before closing the, D.D.G.M. called Bro. Bradbury to the chair and on behalf of Tasnian Lodge, presented him with a framed P.G.'s certificate. He spoke of the splendid work Bro. Bradbury had done for the Order, and referred to the prosperous term of. office he had as N.G., having initiated twenty new members during his term. Bro, Bradbury suitably replied. After ' the. Lodge was closed those present spent a social hour or two together. Refreshments were supplied by the local brethren, while several members of all the lodges ennfribufed lo the harmony of the evening with songs, yarns, musical items, etc. The meting 'closed at, a. late hour, the geneval feeling being that the Nelson Lodge should pay a return visit to Marlborough in the near future.
