League selected Australia as the venue for the next biennial conference. CONSCRIPTION OF PROPERTY IN WAR, TIME (Received 11th June, noon) LONDON, 10th June. Ihe Empire Service League discussed a proposal to recommend branches to press for legislation in the event of war, providing for the conscription of property, persons, lives and libertv of all citizens.
The Ceylon delegate said that Britishers would not look at anything labelled conscription. He advocated that the income and person of every citizen be taken for the service of the Slate at. military rates of pay. If a man did not want, work at home on a private's pay he could go to the Tront, where Tommy Atkins would deal effectively with him. Mr Eraser East said Australia twice rejected conscription at referendums, but supported the idea of the whole of the nation's resources being at the Government's disposal in time of war, each community deciding the best method of doing it.
