When William John Walling, a carrier aged 43, appeared on remand charged with having recklessly driven a motor car and having caused the death of Mrs Teller last Friday, near Johnsonville. when sv private ear was allegedly forced over a 70 foot hank. Air Perry, for the accused, on account, of reports that had been made in the Press, took the unusual stop of making remarks before the case was heard. They were to the effect, that Walling was in no way responsible for the accident. Either the pursuing car got the wrong number or the number of Walling's ear by mistake. Walling did not know anything about the accident until informed by another motorist who passed him about a mile past the scone of the occurrence. Walling turned back and helped in the work of rescue. The next, lie knew about the affair was at. •1 o’clock next morning, when he was arrested.
Walling was further remanded ori .C2OO bail.
