MENTALITY QUESTIONED

OAMARU, This Day. As the outcome of a quarrel between two brothers, Alan and Herbert Svmon. on 28th May, the former, aged lVi, in the .Magistrate's Court, was charged with attempting to murder his brother, who received ;l millet from a pea rifle in' I he neck.
Evidence showed thai accused's mentality was subnormal and he took fits of violent temper. While being searched at the Police Station ac. used is alleged to have said; "l have often told him he would net something like this. He is stronger than the resl n't us and is always pulling us about." On behalf of accused, Mr Hamilton pleaded guilty, but Mr Bundle, S.M., said that in view ~f accused's menial condition, he would enter a plea of not guilty. Mr Bundle added that he would recommend the Minister of Justice to have accused placed under observation at the mental hospital in the meantime, and committed him for trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Court, at Oainaru.
