Tikaokaos (White) defended the southern goal and kicked off'. Wanderers (Black; gathered 'in the leather and came through compelling Jenkins to' save with n line kick. Francois secured from the line out and, supported by N. Holyoake, made a bold bid to penetrate. White's defence. Bradley intervened and effected a clearance. Following a scrum Whites were penalised but Holyoake missed. With the kick and Stevens forced. The ball then travelled up field and passed from Jenkins to Stevens, who found touch near the corner. Blacks soon returne'd and Franklin attempted to score from a mark. Play'eased to neutral ground and Whites pressed; A lively encounter on Blacks territory followed, several splendid efforts being made to break up the opponents defence. Blacks recovered and in a characteristic rush sent Whites to their own quarters. Jenkins in an endeavour to save fumbled the ball and nearly cost his team a score. Stevens forced. Wanderers were, stubborn and held on tenaeeousiy. Francios made a determined dash for the line but was effectively checked, by ITickmott. Pressure was. eased momentarily by .DrogcmiiJlcr. Kangi broke through and a five yards scrum event tinted. Operations Were next transferred to midlield and Wanderers were penalised for off-side play. On the lifl mark Francois gained* possession and dived over near the' corner just as the whistle sounded. Fowler missed with the kick. Wanderers 3—o.
On resuming Blacks again pressed hard and gaining possession from a scrum scored a good try by V. Fry within one minute from'the kick off. No.goal. Wanderers o—o.- ' !•!.•> A penalty against Wanderers allowed .Stevens to gain .considerable ground, with a good : .line kick. Whites' pressed from dm throw 'in' but L. Holyoake. lor. the lime bpin/j; effected a save. ■ A further penalty' against Blacks in a dangerous position saw Dfogernuller open Tikaokaos account. The trv was unconverted. Tikaokaos ( .I—o. Though no further scoring took place before the call of time the game was fast and exciting, each team having its share of offensive and defensive work. On several occasions a .score appeared imminent but the opposing teams seemed always able to extricate "themselves from tight corners. Infringements were plentiful and one or two good' opportunities for a penalty goal missed. The local teams are now fairly well into their stride and' football henceforward should be of a high standarl. •" -Mr L. R. Cutfortk controlled the i match.
