URGENT CALL FROM WHITE ISLAND

TWELVE MEN REPORTED IN

DANGER

OPOTIKI, This Day.

A series of earthquakes passed through this district on (Saturday. Late the same night the radio station IZFB received an urgent S.O.S. call from White Island stating that the island •was violently trembling and quaking and that twelve men were in imminent danger. The message asked for a launch to immediately go out and take the men off. The trembling continued the whole of the week-end. Launches were standing by ready for action. The tremors have now subsided.
