Mr Coates was entertained at the Anzac Luncheon Club on the eve of his departure. He said Australia and New Zealand were striving earnestly to build up " their populations on sound lines, which required careful study. Sitting at. the Imperial Conference he was able to appreciate the difficulties. They had arrived at satisfactory conclusions and he was going home determined to devote the utmost energy to developing (he Empire. ' He was leaving, having learnt much. He believed Britain had evercome her chief economic difficulties, had a brighter future, and was able k> f»ce any competition. Manufacturers had completely., reorganised their works to meet modern requirements. New Zealand' would willingly assist her.

Mr Coates, interviewed, expressed gratitude for the kindest public and private, hospitality. Wherever he and his wife had. gone lie had been most gratified by the cordial sentiment'demonstrated on, every , hand," . towards the course followed by the'lmperial Conference, which would achieve important practical results.- He paid a. tribute to the efforts British .manufacturers had made to keep abreast with Dominion requirements. Britain's industrial future would he bright if peace were ensured. His welcome would always remain a happy memory. He added that some people suggested the accomplishments of the. Conference were political,, and. not practical: He considered the Conference had clarified essential principles for the Empire's future progress and unity, but it needed a study of oversea needs regarding articles of general or domestic use. *.'.
