TELEGRAPHIC MATCH WITH DUNEDIN
At the adjournment on Saturday evening , the. positions in the match versus Dunedin were as follows:
Board 1: Severne v. Pike (Q.P. game). The position is fairly level. . Board 2: Dodds v. Hamel. The Dunedin player declined to take a pawn offered by Dodds against his opponent’s French defence, and a good game is in progress, Dodds attacking strongly. Board b: Trathen v. Cohen. Tralhen, who is playing well, has won a pawn and has a promising game., Board 4: A. D. Kemp v. Myers. Tli6 Southern player has won a pawn, and game is in the,rooks and pawns stage. Board 5: Griffin v. Wright. The Nel-, son, player did not turn up to play ; ; game will probably be either cancelled or drawn.
Board 6: Wilkinson v. Grigg. Wilkinson allowed his opponent to begin an embarrassing attack, hut on adjournment was getting out of Ip's major difficulties. Board ' 7Harris v. Marlow. The Dunedin player made an overwhelming attack against Harris, and forced his resignation on move 25. Board 8: Mowbray v. Allen. Mowbray cleverly won a pawn and has a promising game. , Board 9: T. Dodds, v. Dr. Barnett. Barnett worked up a good attack and Dodds could not avoid mate on move 26.
Board 10: Knight v .McDermid. The local man .is a pawn doAvn, but position is <o liis advantage. 1 : Board 11: Rickman v. Dr. Fulton. Rickman unfortunately misplaced bis King and Queen -when setting up His men, and in the first two moves lost a pawn and got a bad game. Tin's advantage was pressed by Dr. Fulton, who won easily. '
Board 12: Parcell v. Dr. Merrington. The. local man is a.pawn down, but position otherwise safe.
